What is craniofacial surgery

Craniosynostosis is one of the most frequent diseases treated with craniofacial surgery, which is the premature closure of the gaps between the skull's bones, resulting in abnormal development of the skull. A cranial vault remodeling is a name given to the specific operation that is performed to treat craniosynostosis.

Diagnosis of Craniofacial Abnormalities


Some craniofacial syndromes are visible from birth, whilst others are not visible until a baby's head has grown in size over the first few months. The majority of the time, your physician may detect a craniofacial anomaly simply by doing an examination. An MRI or CT scan of your child's skull, brain, and facial structure can be used to assist determine the exact cause of the problem. During treating a kid who has been diagnosed with a craniofacial anomaly, the maxillofacial surgeon will be engaged.

Babies' skulls develop fast throughout the first year of life, which is why these disorders are most likely to be detected and treated during this period of early childhood. Your pediatrician may propose that you and your kid undergo observation for a few weeks or months to determine whether or not your child's health is likely to worsen.
