|Dental implant surgery is just like any other dental procedure, and it requires monitoring. Moreover, if you still have natural teeth, they need care as well. There are many reasons why you still need to come in for dental exams after you have dental implants.
It is imperative that you come in for frequent follow-up visits after your dental implant surgery. We must monitor your oral health and make sure the operation will be successful.
How Often Do I Need to Come In After Getting Dental Implants?
Likely, we will ask you to come to the office for one or more follow-up appointments after your dental implant surgery. This is designed to monitor your progress closely and determine how the healing is moving along.
It is critical that you keep these appointments to ensure the surgery's success because, in some instances, it could fail without the proper aftercare.
Even after you have healed from the surgery completely, we may still ask you to come in more often than every six months. Again, this is to ensure everything is progressing as it should.
If you have a full set of implants, you need to care for them as you do your natural teeth. Brush and floss following the post-surgery instructions to prevent gum disease. If you only have one or a few implants, and the rest of your natural teeth, we also want to see you every six-months after your follow-up appointments end.
For the dental implant surgery to be successful, you must maintain good oral health and avoid any dental issues, such as gum disease, which could cause bone loss.
Please let us know if you have any questions about why you still need to come in for dental exams when you have dental implants. We are here to help.
