Facts You Should Make Sure You Know About CavitiesLet's face it, nobody wants cavities. Cavities mean decay and sometimes pain within your mouth. But do you know what a cavity actually is, or what the consequences of cavities are for your mouth? Keep reading for more information about cavities.

Information about Cavities

Believe it or not, cavities are a disease. In fact, they are the most common disease in children and teenagers. Ninety percent of all adults have at least one cavity. Cavities are holes in your teeth caused when bacteria in your mouth create acids that can destroy your tooth enamel.

Eventually, the acids erode your tooth enamel, and expose the root of the tooth, which leads to tooth pain. The pain may be especially noticeable when you eat or drink something cold- or something hot.

Cavities do not happen overnight, in fact, it takes them a while to form- which means you can do a lot to prevent them. Whether or not you get a cavity is determined by the kind of foods you eat, the number of bacteria that is in your mouth, and your overall dental hygiene. In reality, if your dental health is good, you will have fewer cavities than someone who does not take care of their teeth, whether you both eat the same food or not.

That's because it takes time for the bacteria to stick to the teeth, and if you take care of your teeth, you are constantly working to remove ways for bacteria to stick to your teeth. Also, no surprise here, bacterial love junk food, because it is easier for them to digest. They are not so fond of vegetables, because the cellulose in them is more difficult to digest.
