When you brush your teeth, you may wonder how much time you need to take to do so. You may also ask if you are doing it right. The following information can enlighten you on how to use your toothbrush to your best advantage.
Follow the 2/2 Rule To keep your teeth and gums healthy, follow the 2/2 rule for brushing your pearly whites. Brush your teeth for two minutes, twice a day. The best times to brush are in the morning or before you go to bed at night. When you brush, you need to make sure you cover the chewing sides and the inner and outer parts of each tooth. That is why you need to spend about two minutes on the activity. To make sure you follow the 2/2 rule, time your brushing activity.
Timing the Activity
You can find brushing timers online that are built into electric toothbrushes. If you use a regular toothbrush, use the timer on your smartphone. You can also find some favorite songs to play that last about 2 minutes when you brush your teeth. Or see if a sand timer from a board game will support the 2/2 rule. Maybe you are more old school. If so, simply check the second hand of your clock or a watch. Just make sure you hold your brush at a 45-degree angle and use short strokes. Move back and forth over the gumline and teeth. Take a couple seconds to brush your tongue too.
As you can see, you don't have to take much time to brush your teeth. You just need to make sure not to brush too hard or forcefully. Doing so can wear away the enamel. Call us today to set an appointment to have your teeth checked. Make the most of the time you spend on caring for your teeth.
