How to Deep Clean Your Teeth

Posted on 5/24/2021 by Weo Admin
How to Deep Clean Your TeethIf you miss more than two dental cleanings, you are likely to have severe plaque accumulation. This plaque may make it difficult for us to examine your teeth, and we may recommend a deep cleaning. Also, if you have gum disease, we will recommend a deep cleaning. Planing, a type of deep cleaning, helps clear bacteria from your mouth and gum line, relieving gum disease.

How Do I Know I Need Deep Cleaning?

You can tell whether you need deep cleaning based on your teeth' health. If you notice signs such as red, swollen, and tender gums, you are an ideal candidate. Your gums may also bleed during brushing or flossing. Also, your gums may pull away from your teeth, making your teeth appear longer than usual due to the infection.

How Deep Cleaning Works

Deep cleaning comprises two parts, that is, scaling and root planing. Upon your visit, we will examine your teeth to check the intensity of plaque and signs of infection. We will also check the gum pockets and take dental X-rays to check for bone loss. In scaling, we will use a dental scaler to scrape plaque from your teeth and gum line. We may also use an ultrasonic tool with a water spray to wash off the tartar. Next, we will do the planing, in which we will smoothen the rough spots on your tooth roots to encourage reattachment of your gum tissues. Root scaling and planing will only require a single visit to complete the procedures.

Dental Care After Deep Cleaning

After deep cleaning, your gums will feel sensitive, and you will need to avoid hard and spicy foods, which may cause irritation. We will also prescribe an antibiotic rinse to reduce bacteria count in the mouth. You may also need to visit us regularly after cleaning for follow-up treatment. After the treatment, you should continue practicing good dental care to prevent gum disease from recurring. You should brush and floss your teeth after meals and eat a healthy diet.
