What To Expect When Getting Your Wisdom Teeth Removed

Posted on 8/22/2022 by Dick Hikade, DDS
What To Expect When Getting Your Wisdom Teeth RemovedThe American Dental Association suggests that you consider having your wisdom teeth extracted if you notice any of the following changes in the region around your wisdom teeth: Pain. Infections recurred in the gum tissue beneath the lowermost tooth or pouches filled with liquid (cysts).

After surgery, the majority of patients have little to no discomfort. It is expected that you will have swelling and some slight pain for around three days. It might take up to a few weeks for your mouth to recover. However, it is typical for there to be some swelling, discomfort, and bleeding after having wisdom teeth out.

Remember to Follow Your Dentists Instructions After Surgery

Pain relievers like ibuprofen and paracetamol are likely to be recommended to you by your dentist. You may discover that ibuprofen is perhaps the most suitable pain medication for you to take after having your wisdom teeth out. If this is the case, you should continue to take it as directed.

There is some research to support this claim. In addition, the dentist could advise you to avoid vigorous activity and workout for a couple of days while you recover from the procedure.

Keep your head elevated with an extra pillow at night and for the first 24 hours after the extraction to prevent the clots that develop in the unfilled tooth canal from being dislodged.
